RUBBER BOARD CAMPAIGN ON LOW FREQUENCY TAPPING
The Rubber Board is organising an intensive mass contact programme among small holders to popularise the technique of low frequency tapping in rubber. The meetings are scheduled to be held from 8 June to 24 July 2009. Four thousand meetings with a participation of one lakh growers will be arranged in the traditional rubber growing belt of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with the active involvement of the Rubber Producers Societies.
Unscientific exploitation practices among small growers is a matter of concern, as it leads to low productivity, high incidence of Tapping Panel Dryness and premature replantation. There is an urgent need for popularising scientific tapping practices among small growers for the sustainable growth of the rubber plantation industry. Adoption of low frequency tapping has an important role in improving the conditions of the mature holdings and extending the productive life of the plantations. It can also be considered as a viable solution for the problem of the shortage of skilled tappers.
